Gödöllö in English mode


GÖDÖLLŐ

In my first mini-report I'm gonna talk about a little city located on the North-East of Budapest (Hungary). I think Gödöllő deserves a visit because of its monuments and the history that stay in every corner of the city. Üdvözöljük a Gödöllő!!

≈ How to get there?:
From Budapest there are many ways to go to Gödöllő: trains, buses...I recomend personally to use the train: is the fastest way, it's cheap and secure too. The journey lasts (more less) half an hour.

≈ What can you visit?:
   Here's the list with the most important monuments in Gödöllő:

   -         The royal Palce: Adress: 2100 Gödöllő, Grassalkovich-palace/5852. It was built by Antal Grassalkovich during the XVIIIth century. After the Grassalkovichs' era, as a coronation gift, the palace was given to Franz Joshep I and Queen Elisabeth (Sissi). During long periods they enjoyed in the Hungarian palace, especially in the Fall and spring. Franz Joseph loved hunting hoods in the nearby forests and Sissi; riding horses. The Princess Maria Valeria grow up in the palace, far away from the Vienesse Court that distressed to her mother. After the Emperators' death, the palace belonged to the last generation of Emperators and in that palace they received the piece of new about the fall of the monarchy. During the Two World Wars, the palace was used by the Sovietic Ocupation and also was the Romanian's army headquarter. It was sacked by the German army and they stole lot of objects from the Imperial Age. Later the palace was a nursing home. In the 80's, the reconstruction of the palace and the gardens started with the aim of restore the palace to its imperial era, and also to give the chance of knowing the lifes of the most famous Emperators of Austria.

This is the timetable of the palace: 10.00-17.00. This are the prices of the tickets to visit the palace and the gardens.
  Adults:  2200 ft.  (7 euros)
  Students:   1100 ft. (3,5 euros)
  Familiar ticket: (2 adults and 2 children from 0-18)  4600 ft.
  1-9 people: 5300 ft. (17 euros)
  10-25 people: 6500 ft.  (22 euros)

Also, there are audioguides in many languagues: English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Polish, Romanian and Slovak. They cost 600 ft (2 euros)

-       • The World Peace Gong: This is the fisrt European Peace Gong. It was given to Gödöllő by Indonesia as a frienship symbol. On the Gong, the flags from all the countries, the symbols of the different religions and the World map with the oceans are represented. The Gong was inaugurated in 2007, there is a pate that tell us the story of the Gong. This monument is located in the Town Hall's square.

  • Reformed church: Its first location was in nowadays palace site, so it was destroyed in 1657.  Antal Grassalkovich I provided enough money for the construction of a new one in 1754. The Reformed church has been rebuilt several times in history but nowadays it is availed to visit.

  •The Scout statue: It was inaugurated ten years after the World Scout Conference in 1933   although it disappeared during the Soviet era. Then, another one was re-built on the original base. The base was completed with reliefs of portraits of important personalities such as Olav and Robert Baden Powell, founders of World Scout Movement.

The Pelican Well: It is in the middle of the Town Market and the most important symbol of Gödöllő is represented on the well: the pelican which feeds its son with its own blood. It’s very typical for tourists to take photos by the well because it reminds them about the baroque age.

≈  How to move in Gödöllő?
The different monuments in Gödöllő are really near one from each other    and is very nice to walk in the city because of its forest and its green areas. It's also avaible to get a tram.

It will be very nice to visit Gödöllő if you go to Hungary. There are also many cities to complete a Hungarian circuit. I hope you'd like my first mini-report. You can comment right down (your opinion is necessary to improve). Thank you so much :D
